Opera Orlando to Discuss Female Leadership in the Arts in “Having a Voice – On Stage and at the Table” discussion

On October 22, 2021, Opera Orlando, in partnership with Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida, will present a conference entitled “Having a Voice – On Stage and at the Table”.

The panel will include soprano and arts administrator Cecilia Violetta Lopez, conductor Stephanie Rhodes Russel, Burnett Honors College dean Sheila Pineres, and an appearance by writer / entrepreneur Molly Bloom. The discussion will focus on women leaders in the performing arts. Organized in the rehearsal room of the UCF music school, the event will be free and open to the public.

Lopez and Russell will both be part of the upcoming Opera Orlando production “La Traviata”, the direction of which will be based on Bloom’s life; by the age of 26, Bloom was running one of the world’s most exclusive and important poker games, becoming the target of an FBI investigation and subsequent prosecutions.

“Since we have two dynamos running our production of La Traviata both on stage and in the pit with Cecilia and Stephanie, we wanted to find a way to showcase their impressive careers as both performers and entrepreneurs” , says Gabriel Preisser, general manager of Orlando Opera. “It was an added bonus for us to get Molly Bloom involved, whose unique and dramatic life story served as the inspiration for our updated version of La Traviata.”
